India's ace tennis player Sania Mirza gave a scare to World No.4 Jelena Jankovic before going down in the singles second round of the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championship here on Thursday.

Sania shocked the star player by snaring the first set but then the fourth seed Serbian fought back with vengeance to take the game 4-6 6-3 6-4 in 2 hour 14 minutes.

Sania fought neck and neck with her famed opponent and gave her a good chance to score a major upset after pocketing the first set.

Sania was quick off the blocks and stunned Jankovic by going 1-0 up but then could not maintain the tempo.

Stung by the reversal, Jankovic brought out her best and came back strongly in the second set to level terms. Sania won five break points to Jankovic's six and also made just four double faults in the entire match.
