Serbian mountain to climb for Socceroos

Australia have the odds stacked against them as they bid to get past Serbia in Nelspruit on Wednesday. Trailing in Group D with just a point, they need to beat Serbia and hope either group leaders Ghana win by any margin or Germany hammer the Ghanaians in the simultaneous match.

Australia have the odds stacked against them as they bid to get past Serbia in Nelspruit on Wednesday. Trailing in Group D with just a point, they need to beat Serbia and hope either group leaders Ghana win by any margin or Germany hammer the Ghanaians in the simultaneous match.

The Aussies will be without suspended players, Harry Kewell and Craig Moore, but will welcome back midfielder Tim Cahill from suspension. “They're both great players. It will be great to get Timmy back but it's really disappointing to lose Harry,” Brett Emerton said. Coach Pim Verbeek has only Josh Kennedy and youngster Nikita Rukavytsya left along with Cahill and Brett Holman to score the goals.
