India’s Somdev Devvarman went down to 85th-ranked Ukrainian and third seed Illya Marchenko in the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open tennis qualifiers here.
Somdev, ranked 120, lost 4-6, 3-6 Tuesday. The Indian had defeated Frenchman David Guez in the first round.
India's teenage sensation Yuki Bhambri had already lost in the first round of qualifiers Monday with a straight set loss to Uzbek Denis Istomin.
Nations Cup worth a try, says Nalbandian
David Nalbandian crawled off the canvas from an abdominal injury this month and flew to Stockholm to help Argentina defeat Sweden 3-2 in the first round of the Davis Cup.
But the one-time Wimbledon finalist said Tuesday at the start of the ATP Miami Masters that the proposal for a Nations Cup event that could replace a multi-week Davis Cup commitment would be worth seriously considering.
"You have to try something," Nalbandian said. "I like a lot what you feel on the court during Davis Cup -- it's much difference than the ATP or Grand Slams.
Jay Sean pairs with Ivanovic against Mel B
Indian origin R&B star Jay Sean gave the bling a miss to don tennis whites for the opening match of the Sony Ericsson Open where he paired with former world No.1 Ana Ivanovic against Spice Girl, Mel B. The popstar partnered with Novak Djokovic against Sean and Ivanovic as part of ‘Glam.Set.Match’ event which took place in Miami.
It was the Indian singer and Ivanovic who snuck through to win in the closing minutes and claim the title.
