Indian tennis ace Somdev Devvarman gained five places to be placed at 79th position in while out of action Sania Mirza dropped two places to be on 88 in the singles in the latest tennis rankings.
In the ATP doubles chart, there was no change in the rankings of Mahesh Bhupathi (7) and Leander Paes (8), even Rohan Bopanna remained static at the number 16th spot. In the teams ranking, Bhupathi and Paes, were at number four.
India’s Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan’sAisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi were at number seven.
In the WTA list, Sania’s doubles rankings was unchanged at 11th, while along with her Russian partner Elena Vesnina she remained at number six.
DGC celebrates “100 Years of Golf”
New Delhi: The Delhi Golf Club will play host to the Bachelor's Cup, a week-long celebration of 100 years of golf.
The tournament will see as many as 700 golfers from various age groups taking part.
Although the present location of the Delhi Golf Club shifted in early 1930s, golf has been known to be played even before the capital of India was shifted from Kolkata to Delhi in 1911. Ever since the “Bachelor's Cup” has been a regular feature.
Spread over 179 acres, the Delhi Golf Club is home to many professional tournaments, including the Indian Open, part of the prestigious Asian PGA Tour. It was here that golfers like Ali Sher, Gaurav Ghei, SSP Chowrasia, Jyoti Randhawa and Arjun Atwal have emerged champions in many events.
FIH, HI to meet
New Delhi: With time running out for India to save the hosting rights of next year’s Olympic qualifiers, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has summoned Hockey India to present its case before the world body’s executive council on November 12. The FIH has asked HI to appear before its executive board to discuss issues related to the game's governance in the country.
