Guillermo Garcia-Lopez brought Somdev Devvarman back to winning ways, as the Indian saved nine of the 10 break points to enter the second round of the ATP event in Eastbourne. The top-ranked Indian defeated Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 6-4 in 90 minutes in the opening round, on Monday evening.

Incidentally, the Spaniard was the last player Devvarman had beaten before a disappointing run through the summer. The Indian had won a tough three-setter 7-6(6), 2-6, 7-6(8) against Garcia-Lopez in the second round of the clay-court event in Belgrade before losing six matches in a row, including five first-round defeats. He next faces France’s Julien Benneteau. Meanwhile, Sania Mirza bowed out in the final round of qualifying. After having beaten Anna Tatishvili 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the second round of qualifiers on the day, she failed to make it to the main draw losing 3-6, 3-6 to Tamira Paszek.
