Juan Manuel Lillo is a name few beyond those familiar with Spain's La Liga would know. The youngest coach in the history of the league, when he took up the reins at UD Salamanca in 1992 at the age of 27, Lillo is among the first of many names suggested for the role of India's technical-director.

All-India Football Federation general-secretary Kushal Das, who had earlier mentioned Lillo's name in passing to HT during senior national coach Armando Colaco's first media interaction on June 15, said, "Lillo is among five or six names suggested by our commercial partners (RIL-) IMG and the federation is interested. But that depends on whether he wants to come to India. He is not the only candidate we're looking at."

Asked why Lillo, who was most recently sent packing by Almeria after a 0-8 drubbing by Barcelona, was in the radar, Das said, "We wanted someone young... However, it depends on the wages demanded but there has been nothing exchanged about that yet."
