Mahesh Bhupathi's statement after the Australian Open doubles finals about looking forward to pairing with Leander Paes has got Indian tennis fans hopes aglow. After all there is nothing better than the two together as far as this country's Grand Slam aspirations go.
"We will be playing two more events - at Dubai and Palm Springs. Originally we had looked at pairing up for two weeks and now its been stretched by another three. We haven't thought of anything past that," Paes told HT after the duo bowed out against the Bryan brothers.
While Paes feels that the two are coming together well after such a long hiatus, he is also wary of the road ahead.
"Lots of guys will now be revisiting our videos to find what chinks have crept into our gelling over the long years apart. They all want our scalp because it is kind of prized with a total of 23 Grand Slam trophies between us. There'll be no easy matches."
Paes refuses to speculate if the partnership will extend to other Grand Slams or even beyond Palm Springs.
"I don't want to jump too fast. We'll take it easy. What's important is that we should stay happy playing with each other."
