Mahindra United lost points again after being held to their third straight draw of the I-League, this time by JCT away.
For a change, the turnout at the Guru Nanak Dev Stadium was impressive. The crowd saw both teams getting their chances to notch up a win before splitting points. After both teams started cautiously, Baljit Sahni, the League’s joint-highest scorer with Mohun Bagan’s Edeh Chidi and Mahindra United’s Subair Muritala Ali with five goals, came close in the sixth and 26th minutes but drove wide.
Mahindra replied with Svetozar Mijin’s corner-kick which midfielder NP Pradeep shot into goal only for Karanjit Singh to keep the ball out. Soon after Mohammed Rafi’s shot thudded into the framework. JCT too were unlucky when Baljit came to grief against the framework in the 68th minute.
Muritala Ali was adjudged Man of the Match. Mahindra United’s Kalialaudeen, Jagpreet Singh and Balraj Singh of JCT were shown the yellow card.
On Sunday, Air India host defending champions Churchill Brothers and Dempo play in Pune.
