Bernard Tomic is poised to become Australia's youngest Davis Cup tennis player after being named in its squad for the Asia Oceania Group One tie against Taiwan. Tomic will be 17 years, 135 days old when the tie begins at Melbourne Park on March 5, 42 days younger than John Alexander who made his Davis Cup debut in 1968.

Australia's top-ranked player Lleyton Hewitt is unavailable after hip surgery and Tomic is likely to join Peter Luczak in playing singles.

The Australian squad also includes Carsten Ball and doubles specialist Paul Hanley.
