Ever since Wim Koevermans stepped down as head coach of the Indian football team, there has been a lot of interest in who will take over from the Dutchman. Captain Sunil Chhetri - speaking after a press conference to announce the start of a four-versus-four league for kids between the ages of six to 16 by former India footballer Eric Benny - hopes that a decision is taken soon.

"I have heard that a lot of applications have come in," the forward said.

Chhetri said that he was taken aback by Koevermans' announcement. "It was sad, sudden. None of us were prepared."

Applicants rumoured to be interested are former East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan, former New Zealand coach Rickey Herbert (who took them to the 2010 World Cup) and Bengaluru FC coach Ashley Westwood.
