A Kent bonfire society has unveiled a 49ft Wayne Rooney as this year's celebrity Guy for its display. The effigy, filled with fireworks and wearing green Shrek-style ears and a Man United shirt, will be set on fire at Edenbridge Bonfire Society's display, expected to draw crowds of up to 15,000. The figure depicts Rooney holding a copy of his lucrative new contract under one arm, and a bag of cash in the other. The society's spokesman, Charles Laver, said Rooney was chosen to mark the string of tabloid stories about his personal life and his future at United.
“I hate football myself so I'm quite happy to burn a footballer. One of our members is a big Man U fan, so he's been advising us on getting all the details of the kit just right.”
