A campaign meeting for Congress candidate and actor Nagma turned chaotic in Meerut's Jali Kothi area on Thursday night.
Meerut Congress president Salim Bharti admitted to the furore but dismissed reports that a man manhandled the actor, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Meerut, and that she slapped him.
A huge crowed turned up to catch a glimpse of the actor and her fans and supporters jostled to click her photograph.
Nagma left the meeting after trying in vain to pacify the crowd.
Bharti said people were coming out in support of the Congress candidate and commotion in such situations was normal.
Vice-president of District Congress Committee, Mohammad Imran, blamed the administration and police for not providing adequate security for the meeting.
"They are not cooperating with us," he said elaborating that a few people pretending to be media persons came to the meeting with an objective to spoil them.
Imran claimed that people had caught a fake media person in an election rally and handed him over to the police who let him go.
He claimed that the party's rivals are afraid of the growing popularity of Nagma therefore are adopting every possible means to create chaos in their meetings.
