As elections ended in Telangana on Wednesday, the BJP-TDP combine of Narendra Modi and Chandrababu Naidu launched a unified campaign to woo Seemandhra – the larger part of undivided Andhra that has 25 Lok Sabha and 175 assembly seats.

Launching their campaign from the temple town of Tirupati in Naidu’s home turf, it was like the duo was speaking in unison, praising each other and listing the wonders in store as the Prime Minister of the country and the chief minister of Seemandhra.

Modi also referred to the FIR registered against him on Wednesday: “I would like to tell you that all these years, there was no case against me. But today there is one … you might think for what? It’s not for threatening someone with a gun or some such thing, but for showing a lotus.”

He told the voters to choose between a “golden Seemandhra” under Naidu and a “Scamandhra” under others. Pawan Kalyan, president of Janasena, modified his earlier call to say: “YSR Congress hatao, Seemandhra bachao.”

Earlier in Bihar, Modi said the elections so far had ensured that the Congress-led UPA government was on its way out and a solid foundation for the new government had been laid.

“Now, the need is to give strength to the new government so that it can tackle the problems facing the nation,” he added at rallies in Ujiarpur, Chapra, Hajipur and Sheohar in Bihar. “Is it not a fact that the mother and son helped fodder scam convict Lalu get out of jail (on bail after being convicted for five years in the fodder scam)?” Modi asked.

Recalling the October 27 Patna serial blasts, he said: “I am lucky to have survived the blasts to be with you here today ... Had God not been with me, I would not be here.”
