In its reply to the District Election Officer's notice, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday claimed that its protest at the BJP headquarters two days ago was an "instant reaction" to the alleged detention of its leader Arvind Kejriwal in Gujarat. It was "not a planned" event, it asserted.

The Kejriwal-led party also said it was not carrying out any campaigning and said, "We respect the model code of conduct." "We also said we will cooperate with the election commission authorities," said a party spokesperson.

The election officer had served a notice to AAP for its alleged violation of the model code of conduct after Wednesday's protest that turned violent outside the BJP headquarters on Ashoka Road. AAP was asked to reply within 24 hours on why action should not be taken against it for holding the protest without permission from the poll officials.

Stating that AAP has denied all allegations, officials from the New Delhi district said, "We have examined the video footage and the police report. We will sent our detailed report to the Delhi chief electoral officer tomorrow."
