Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday faced protest by people shouting slogans in favour of Narendra Modi in Varanasi, prompting police to use force to disperse the crowd.

The incident took place when Kejriwal stopped at a famous pan shop near the Banaras Hindu University after returning from campaigning in nearby villages.

As Kejriwal was chatting with people near the pan shop, a crowd gathered there and began shouting slogans. The protestors turned aggressive but no harm was caused to Kejriwal, as police reached the spot soon and intervened to disperse the crowd.

Some locals claimed there the police resorted to cane-charge to disperse the crowd. The cops, however, denied the claim.

They said the AAP leader was frequently moving away from their security cordon, which created problems for the local administration.
