A Chinese girl who underwent a series of sex change surgeries to become a boy hopes to lead a married life but is sad at not being able to father a child.

Geng Junlan underwent four operations in a year to become a boy and is now known by the name Geng Zi. Doctors who termed the surgery a "medical success" say Geng has also developed a "totally male psyche."

Geng, who made his first public appearance in Xiamen city in east China's Fujian province after the surgery, told reporters that though he wants to get married, he is worried whether his future wife would accept his "unusual history."

He also regretted that he would not be able to father a child like other men.

"I had dreamt of being a man since childhood, but didn't have enough money for the operation. I quarrelled with my family for 14 years on this matter," Geng said.

Geng said though people sized "her" up with curious eyes before the operation, they are now nice to him.

"My family has also accepted me again," Geng said, "My parents applied for a new identification card on my behalf.

"Now, my lifelong dream has come true. I can say I haven't wasted my life," Geng says with a smile.
