The inimitable Amitabh Bachchan is back to host the seventh season of his popular TV quiz show.

At 70, the star still claims to have butterflies in his stomach and admits to being nervous before a project goes on air. In addition, Bachchan also enjoys exchanging views and thoughts with his online audience and is looking forward to the reception of his TV acting debut.

Excerpts from the interview.
You are very up-to-date on social media sites such as Twitter and you also update your blog regularly. How do you sustain it?
It’s more of an individual effort. I enjoy the medium and like this platform. I have a large number of people who I now call my extended family. They are constants with me on my blog, Twitter and Facebook. It’s wonderful to be able to converse with them, exchange ideas, thoughts, be receptive to what they say and to do so regularly on a daily basis. I feel something is missing if I don’t converse with them every day. If I don’t feel it, they will make me feel it (laughs) because they keep pestering me: ‘Ek baj gaya, abhi tak aap aaye nahin’ (it’s one o’clock and you haven’t come online yet). It has become personal.

Recently Amar Singh (politician) said in an interview that it was Amitabh Bachchan's call not to remain friends. What would you like to say?
I am a friend. For me, he’s going to remain a friend for the rest of my life.

People in the industry feel that with you acting in a TV show, times are set to change. Do you feel so too?
I don’t know. I just look at it as another opportunity for me to get involved in. I just want to see how people react to it. It would be another experience, but I don’t know if it will bring a change. That’s not the reason why I am working, but I know it’s a change for me. It’s a new challenge for me. I never look at it that way (setting a precedent).

Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan

The theme this year for Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) is ‘Seekhna bandh toh jeetna bandh’ (you stop winning when you stop learning), what have you learnt this year?
(The) learning process is something that you go through every minute of every day. There are so many things one learns. But some of them one wants to keep to oneself.

After hosting so many seasons of KBC, has it become a routine?
No, never. Work is not routine for me. It’s a moment of learning, apprehension, uncertainty. You don’t know what’s going to happen and there is a huge amount of nervousness too.

Do you answer the questions in your mind too? Have you ever reached the last question?
Yes, but I hardly am able to go beyond three. I have never reached the top. (It’s) impossible.
Do you feel nervous even today?
Yes. This is a fallacy and I hate people who tell me that ‘At this age, after having done so much, how can you feel so?’. I say in the field of creativity, every day is a challenge at least I look upon it that way. There’s always going to be butterflies in the stomach and apprehension as to how it is going to be, what the reaction will be. These are some of the things that worry us. At least (worry) me.

You have achieved so much in life, is there any desire or wish that you want to fulfill?
I have never believed in what you just said because I am just another normal person, much like you or anyone else. Every day I look out for something new and challenging; something to improve my craft, myself. These are the opportunities that I look forward to.
