Vivek Oberoi is elated to have attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on Monday (May 26). Talking about the event, the actor says, “It was an incredible feeling to be at the ceremony. There was positivity in the air, and it was nice to see people from all walks of life in attendance. I just feel ‘achhe din aa gaye hain’ (good days are here). It was also nice to see all the SAARC leaders sitting at a round table, having tea and discussing various topics.”

Adding that he got the opportunity to interact with Modi, Vivek says, “I fondly call him Narendra bhai. I congratulated him and told him that he has given hope to the people who dream of a new beginning. He thanked me and said, ‘Every Indian is with me in this dream’.”

Vivek got a chance to meet Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif too. “He told me that 95% of his country’s population had backed his decision to come to India for the ceremony. They genuinely want peace and were looking forward to this, hoping that it leads to a better future for both countries,” says the actor, who had a chat with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well.

Ask him which areas need the new government’s attention the most and he says, “We need to tackle inflation, get rid of unemployment, and bring the economy back on track.”

Vivek Oberoi grabbed eyeballs at the ceremony with his choice of jacket — a purple piece with a white lotus on the crest. And Twitter found its newest laughing stock. The fact that Salman Khan and Vivek were together at the ceremony also fuelled Twitter banter. The actors are known to be on bad terms ever since their infamous spat over actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2003.

However, when we asked the actor about how he felt about trending on the micro-blogging site, he expressed ignorance. “I’m unaware of this. I’m in Delhi and busy with back-to-back meetings.” here's a sampling of what Twitter had to offer...

@BLRrevere: After looking at Vivek Oberoi pink jacket , we now know why Aishwarya Rai said No to him!!

@rameshsrivats : Here’s Vivek Oberoi. Wearing a lotus-coloured jacket with a jacket-coloured lotus.

@mojorojo:You can’t invite Vivek Oberoi to your swearing-in and then say “Acche din aane waale hai”

@coolfunnytshirt: Even Vivek Oberoi is invited to NaMo’s oath-taking ceremony.. This is a major blow to Uday Chopra, Tusshar, Harman Baweja, Fardeen, Mimoh.

@TheRadioJoker: Modi is not doing divisive politics. He is into unity politics. Look Salman Khan n Vivek Oberoi both are present #swearinginceremony

@mazumdar_sid: More than Modi-Sharif faceoff,  I can’t wait to see Vivek Oberoi and Salman Khan clashing at #ModiMinistry #justsaying

@Diptonew: Vivek Oberoi and Salman Khan both attending Modi’s swearing in. Instead of swearing in, there will be lots of swearing at :)
