A number of Bollywood celebrities may be making their political debut in time for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, but Abhay Deol says he has no such aspirations.
“I would never enter politics, but I will go out and vote. If there are people who want to get into the system and bring about some change, they can go ahead. There is nothing wrong with that. People from everywhere have to participate to clean the system from inside,” says the actor.
However, the 38-year-old actor’s resume mostly boasts of films with distinct social and political elements — be it Shanghai (2012), which dealt with the issue of land displacement; Chakravyuh (2012), which dealt with the Naxal movement or Raanjhanaa (2013), where he played a young student leader and socialist.
Abhay says, “I am not a politician, nor an activist. But in my small way try and bring change with the kind of films I do. I choose my films carefully. I have done movies that are sensitive, which deal with some issue and are a mirror of society.”
