Actor Zarina Wahab has defended her son, 22-year-old Sooraj Pancholi, who has been charged with the abetment of actor Jiah Khan’s suicide.
Speaking about this development Wahab says, “Woh (Jiah) koi 10-12 saal ki bachchi nahi thi ki kisi ke kehne par suicide kar legi. If she was a weak person, you can’t blame my innocent son for the same. Mera beta toh us poore din Jiah ko mila bhi nahi tha... Jiah had come from Hyderabad and even her mother had said how she was depressed, so where does my son come in to the picture?”
Sooraj, an aspiring actor and son of actor Aditya Pancholi, was named in the chargesheet that the Juhu police filed early on Wednesday morning in the Andheri Court in Mumbai. Jiah, 25,who was reportedly seeing Sooraj, was found dead in her apartment on June 3, 2013.

An emotional Wahab further says, “Koi kya kisi ko force kar sakta hai suicide ke liye? In fact, had it not been for my son, she would have committed suicide earlier. She had tried it (suicide) a few times earlier. My son actually tried to save her.” Revealing their future course of action, Wahab says, “We will follow the legal course and advise of our lawyers.”
Meanwhile, Jiah’s mother Rabiya Khan has expressed shock over the police action and has criticised the authorities for ignoring the evidence provided by her, which “indicates that Jiah was murdered.”
She even tweeted, ‘Police has prepared a chargesheet where Sooraj Pancholi can walk into d court with a bottle of wine & walk out high & fly. (sic)”
Khan also claims that the FBI has offered to help in Jiah’s case. Jiah was a US citizen and the family, after Jiah’s death had written to the US consulate. The family says that they have shared the evidence with the US consulate.
