Vivek Oberoi is officially off the singles market. Friday night, the actor got married to Bangalore girl Priyanka Alva. Since the bride’s father, late Jeevaraj Alva, was a well-known politician, the wedding was attended by a host of political bigwigs from Karnataka.
Although many from Bollywood were invited for the wedding that saw 1500 guests, few turned up. “From the film industry, only actors Sushmita Sen, Sangeeta Bijlani, Chiranjeevi and film-maker Mani Ratnam were present,” said a guest, not wishing to be named. Over 150 policemen were deployed — a 100 just to keep the onlookers at bay. The wedding ceremonies began early Friday morning.
“Although Priyanka is a South Indian, all Punjabi ceremonies were performed, as desired by Vivek’s family. During the day, there was a chooda-haldi ceremony at the Alva farmhouse. In the evening, Vivek arrived on a ghodi, while his family danced in the baraat. Both Vivek and Priyanka were dressed in Tarun Tahiliani creations. Vivek also got rid of his moustache for the wedding,” adds the guest. The vows started at 6pm and went on for two hours. Priyanka’s sisters even stole Vivek’s shoes, as is customary. “The farmhouse was decorated like a Jaipur palace, with lights adorning 60 palm trees,” the guest said. The couple will host a reception in Mumbai tonight.
