Lalit Modi's niece Jayati Modi also debut in Karan Johar's forthcoming release, Gippi. She plays Shamira, a popluar queenbee who always bullies Gippi.

It's been three years since Lalit Modi, founder of T-20 league left India for London, for threat to his life and alleged irregularities in the league, and now his 17-year-old niece Jayati Modi, who has just made her Bollywood debut, has come to her paternal uncle’s defence.

“He created something fabulous (in IPL) and for some strange reason, it was taken away from him. The whole world knows that the IPL is his creation and we are really proud of it and him,” says the student of Vasant Valley School, who is currently riding high on the response to her role in Karan Johar’s Gippi, that hit the screens last Friday.

Despite coming from an influential family, the youngster makes it clear that she hasn’t pulled any strings for her film debut.“My family influence hasn’t played any role in my school or this movie. It took me two rounds of audition and 10 days later, I got a call,” says the actor, who is now headed to the US to pursue a four-year course in Liberal Arts (film) but won’t mind skipping a semester if she gets a good role.

About her favourite actors, she says, “I love Shah Rukh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor.”
