True love needs no special place or time. It can blossom in the most unlikely of places. In Lucknow Jail, love blossomed between two prisoners serving life imprisonment and led to their wedlock.
Shami (33) serving life imprisonment for murdering a neighbour in 1991 fell in love with the beautiful Rukhsar Begum (29), locked in Nari Bandi Niketan Women’s Jail. Rukhsar was also serving life sentence for murdering a youth who had made sexual advances at her.
Shami met Rukhsar at a joint function organised by Lucknow Jail and Nari Bandi Niketan. It was love at first sight for both of them. Rebelling against the jail staff, they even kissed and embraced each other on that very day.
Bitten by the love bug, Shami who can work as an electrician, requested the jail staff to utilize his services in Nari Bandi Niketan.
Once Shami got the chance, he would arrange escapades with Rukhsana. On several occasions, they were thrashed by the jail authorities for hugging and embracing each other.
The atrocities of the authorities did not deter them and one day Shami put forth a marriage proposal to Rukhsana. His lady love agreed to it.
Shami had already served 13 years in jail. His advocates suggested that he could get a parole after submitting a bail bond on the basis of his good conduct, his love affair, the intention to marry Rukhsana and a promise to lead the life of a law abiding citizen.
Following the procedure, Shami was able to get a bail. Rukhsana was also granted the same. They soon got married and are happily living together.
Their only fear is that their enemies might try to implicate them in a false case which could lead to the cancellation of parole.
But even in that case they don't mind spending their lives as lovers locked in jail in a wedlock!
