Actor Rajesh Khanna’s friend of 28 years, Delhi-based astrologer Bharat Upamanyu, recalls the lesser-known secrets about the late superstar.

Rajesh Khanna had an avid interest in the field of astrology. So much so that he had studied the subject himself and used to discuss horoscopes for hours with others.

Among the horoscopes that the late superstar had studied minutely was that of his grandson Aarav (son of Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna). He had predicted that Aarav would grow up to be a superstar in Bollywood.

His favourite city in the whole world to shop was San Francisco. He would shop extensively in the American city during his stardom days.

Rajesh Khanna enjoyed a drink or two of Johnny Walker Red Label every evening. He never added soda and had it with just plain water.

He would never eat any snacks along with his drinks.

Rajesh Khanna was a very good cook. He always added the tadka in the daal himself and made it really tasty.

He shared a special bond with his son-in-law, actor Akshay Kumar and used to address him as ‘Buddy.’

He used to address his wife Dimple as Dimpi,  elder daughter Twinkle as Tina Baba and his younger daughter Rinki as Rinka Baba. He was a doting father to the two.

His favourite actors from the older era were Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. Among the new actors, he admired Salman Khan the most. Among heroines, his favourite was Madhuri Dixit.

A song from his own film that he always used to hum was Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana (Andaz, 1971).

Among his ex-girlfriends, he was the closest to Anjoo Mahendru and was in touch with her till his last days.

Although he had girlfriends, he never let anyone (other than Dimple) spend the night at Aashirwaad after Tina Munim moved out.

He was very fond of late politician Rajiv Gandhi and credited him for his introduction to politics. He used to call Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination as ‘the biggest shock of his life.’
