The girls cheered crazy and blew kisses; the guys wished they would play in town once more, even if just once. Watching Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid up close may always feel like magic, but to see them bat in the city perhaps for the last time gave Delhi a different high altogether.

As the cricket stalwarts played the finale of the T20 cricket league on Sunday night at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, emotion flowed free, crowds screamed their names, fans went into a tizzy with the grand farewell.

“I wouldn’t have missed it for anything in the world,” said Dishank Kukreja, 22, one of the thousands of fans in the stands.

Both Tendulkar and Dravid didn’t contribute much with the bat in the match, but the standing ovation they got after their dismissals was a testimony to their contribution to cricket and young Delhi’s love for them.
