This clip of a Korean sitcom actor pretending to be Indian will make you laugh
A funny clip from a 2012 South Korean sitcom featuring a Korean girl pretending to be an Indian to avoid getting arrested goes viral.
Remember Asha Parekh in the famous Sayonara song from the 1966 film Love in Tokyo, waving a fan as she waddles in a kimono? Or Deepika Padukone unsuccessfully trying to pass off as half-Chinese in Chandni Chowk to China?
Well, two can have fun with the stereotype game. A clip of a 2012 Korean sitcom, featuring two girls pretending to be American and Indian, is suddenly going viral.
This clip is extracted from a popular 2012 South Korean sitcom, High Kick 3: Revenge of the Short-Legged.
In the clip, two high school girls, Soo-jong and Ji-won, get arrested for taking a wrong U-turn on their way to audition as extras in a commercial.
But the events take a funny twist since they continue to fake their identities, pretending to be American and Indian ‘foreigners’, to avoid punishment.
As they sit in the police station, the character dressed as an Indian girl begins to repeat the only line she knows in Hindi, “Main khoobsurat hoon, mere se shadi karoge”, meaning, “I am beautiful, will you marry me?”
Despite the cover being blown away after the police identifies them as Korean women - the “Indian girl” continues to defend herself by repeating the only Hindi sentence she knows.
And she goes one extra step to prove her innocence – she begins to dance to prove her Indian-ness!.
The hilarious clip has garnered more than 650,260 views on YouTube, with many commentators saying they loved the Korean actress’ Indian avatar. “My korean bae with Indian cultural sanskriti haha,” reads one comment.
Well, though the pretence didn’t work in the show, or in real life – we sure did have a good laugh!
