Underworld reign in Bollywood returns?
Mahesh Bhatt, who has reportedly received threatening calls in the past, maintains it’s a grey area: "The answer lies somewhere between yes and no. As far as I am concerned, the ‘real industry’ has never flirted with the mob. But I can’t in absolute certainty claim that none of us have anything to do with the underworld."tabloid Updated: Oct 04, 2013 18:14 IST
Bollywood and gangsters share an interesting equation — the former makes movies featuring real-life underworld men, while the kingpin have been known to date actresses. Now, with singer Sonu Nigam reportedly being threatened by the underworld, the D-gang seems to have reared its head in B-town once again.
“Thnks family. 4 d concern. On anthr note, I ddn't go 2 d police, they got 2 know thru their intellgence. When one's conscience is clear, he doesn't experience fear. One tries to analyse. And world is not bad despite it's repercussions (sic),” tweeted the singer.
Last month too, producer Boney Kapoor received death threats from an unidentified person, suspected to be linked to underworld don Ravi Pujari’s gang. But this nexus is a thing of the past, says the fraternity. “I can assure you that there’s no nexus between Bollywood and the underworld. I am not privy to details, but I feel that the security forces are on the top of their game right now. And as a result, they are so strong that they are fully capable of nipping any such thing right in the bud. As far as I am concerned, I feel completely safe in the city,” says Kapoor.
To this, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who was shot at in January 2000 when he was leaving his office, says, “ I don’t have much of an idea about the case. But as part of the film fraternity, I can say that if it’s still happening (the nexus), it’s a sad thing. I’m sure others from the industry will also share this view.”

When our fraternity meets the Mumbai police to discuss other issues, we will take this up too in a big way.”
