Eleven opposition members of the Telangana assembly were suspended on Saturday for a day for disrupting its proceedings.
Speaker Madhusudhana Chary suspended nine legislators of main opposition Congress party and two of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) after legislative affairs minister Harish Rao moved a resolution.
The opposition lawmakers were insisting for a debate on their demand for disqualification of the legislators who defected to ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
As the speaker rejected their adjournment motion, the legislators trooped into the well of the house.
Amid the uproar, Rao moved a resolution for their suspension for one day. The speaker announced their suspension and asked them to leave the house.
Congress leader KA Jana Reddy termed the suspension as unfortunate. He said never in the past such action was taken against the members without a warning.
