Angry Birds becomes a medieval RPG in 'Epic' version

tech reviews Updated: Mar 14, 2014 10:41 IST

A new game is about to join the Angry Birds universe. A far cry from the simple bird-slinging action of the original game, "Angry Birds Epic" will be a complex turn-based RPG (role playing game). The new title confirms the trend towards diversification first seen last fall with the release of "Angry Birds Go!," a racing game.

While the game's publisher Rovio has revealed only a mysterious video on the game, the fan website Angry Birds Nest has published more detailed images.

The action in this medieval RPG will take place on an island, where the various protagonists will battle the notorious pigs with an entirely new arsenal of weapons, including a wooden sword, a frying pan and a "stick thingy with a sponge on top." Players will even be able to enhance their powers through potions. The different colors of birds become different classes of characters in the new game. Red birds, for example, are knights, while yellow birds are mages.

"Angry Birds Epic" is being soft-launched in Australia and Canada this week on iOS. The game will be made available in other countries on Android, iOS and Windows Phone simultaneously before the end of the year.
