The fifty-strong roll call of in-game achievements for "Call of Duty: Ghosts" has been divulged ahead of its November 5 launch, naming plot points, set pieces and chapter titles ahead of time.
According to data retrieved by Xbox360Achievements, all but nine are spelled out, forty of them pertaining to the game's story campaign rather than its online multiplayer modes, and one attached to a new co-op survival mode called Safeguard; the remaining few are kept secret and unlocked only after meeting hidden requirements.
Already confirmed via material from developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision is the narrative background for "Call of Duty: Ghosts."
The US defense infrastructure lies ruined after a surprise attack on home ground by its own satellite super-weapon, leaving it unable to prevent a subsequent invasion.
Players drop into the action a decade later, by which time main character Logan Walker is a member of the Ghosts, a tight-knit and highly specialized squadron fighting for survival set up by Logan's father.
Underwater action, attack dogs, stealth approaches, even a mission in space have featured in trailers and it's no surprise, then, to see them pop up in the game's achievements list.
Other waypoints name several enemies not previously detailed, while one achievement called Piece of Cake is disproportionately valuable in comparison to the rest and, on its face, disproportionately challenging.
That can be taken as a nod to another notoriously difficult achievement associated with the final mission from "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare."
"Modern Warfare" was the game that saw Infinity Ward change from successful studio into industry powerhouse; its co-founders left after "Modern Warfare 2," founding Respawn Entertainment and recruiting many old colleagues for 2014 debut "Titanfall."
But this time, the ultimate challenge of "Ghosts" appears to occur halfway through its storyline rather than as an optional bookend, tempting more players to up the difficulty and test their mettle.
