Finding the right PC

tech reviews Updated: May 11, 2010 18:08 IST

I’m thinking of buying a laptop. My budget is Rs 40,000. I want good display, a graphic card with high memory, a high capacity RAM and more hard disk space. Should I opt for Windows XP, Windows Vista OR Windows 7?.

For your budget and requirements, the Acer Aspire 5740G is the best bet. It costs Rs 37, 594. Its specs are:
Processor: Intel Core i3-330M, 2.13 GHz
RAM: 4 GB, DDR3
Hard drive: 320 GB
Screen size: 15.6-inch (1366 x 768)
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5470
Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

If you’re a Dell fan, the Dell Studio 15 (without OPI-designed lid) is a good option. It has more hard drive space, is slightly more powerful than the Aspire 5740, and costs slightly more than 40K.
Processor: Intel Core i3-350M, 2.27 GHz
RAM: 4 GB, DDR3
Hard drive: 500 GB
Screen size: 15.6-inch (1366 x 768)
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5470
Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Most laptops now ship pre-loaded with Windows 7.

Whenever I click on the attachments I receive with emails, my PC hangs and all functions stop. It starts functioning only after through the Task Manager. Please help me.

There may be a problem with your email client or your system may have a virus. Run a thorough virus scan, and get rid of infections. If your PC is not infected, then take a complete backup of your emails and address book, reinstall the email client and import the backed up emails and address book using the import/export function. This should solve your problem. Be very careful when opening attachments. Receiving malware and viruses via email is very common these days. So make sure your antivirus is updated at all times.
