Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to Facebook to tell the world that its light version of its social network app, Facebook Lite, has reached 200 million monthly active users globally.
“We built a light version of Facebook for people with low bandwidth internet. Now 200 million people use it to connect around the world. I loved hearing this news -- what a great start to the day,” Zuckerberg wrote on his wall.
Facebook, via a statement, also said that it will continue rolling out the light version to other countries. It also said that it has been working on the feature to make it more powerful and accessible for users.
“We’ve found that people who use FB Lite are also those that share devices. So we’ve made it easier for people to log on and off their accounts,” the company said in a statement adding that the FB Lite app, which was launched in 2015, is a good fit for emerging markets such as India, Brazil and Mexico.
Facebook said that it is soon going to roll out the FB Lite app in countries such as South Korea, UAE, Italy, and Israel.
