The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the US is the latest victim of hacker attack.
Hackers attacked the federal agency and leaked contact information of 20,000 employees on Monday, just a day after posting similar information of about 10,000 employees of the Department of Homeland Security, CNN reported.
The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a cabinet department of the United States federal government, created in response to the September 11 attacks, with the primary responsibilities of protecting the territory of the United States and protectorates from and responding to terrorist attacks, man-made accidents, and natural disasters.
The hackers later tweeted from an account @DotGovs claiming the responsibility and said that they had obtained the details by hacking into a Department of Justice (US) database.
“FBI and DHS info is dropped and that’s all we came to do, so now its time to go, bye folks! #FreePalestine,” the hackers also tweeted.
The leaked information contains names, titles, phone numbers and email addresses. After a week, the hackers group sent out another tweet mocking the Justice Department. “Well folks, it looks like @TheJusticeDept has finally realised their computer has been breached after 1 week,” they wrote.
While the Justice Department is investigating the attack, department spokesman Peter Carr said that sensitive information was not leaked like social security numbers.
“The department is looking into the unauthorised access of a system operated by one of its components containing employee contact information,” Carr was quoted as saying to CNN.
“This unauthorised access is still under investigation; however, there is no indication at this time that there is any breach of sensitive personally identifiable information. The department takes this very seriously and is continuing to deploy protection and defensive measures to safeguard information. Any activity that is determined to be criminal in nature will be referred to law enforcement for investigation,” he added.
Later the group further mocked federal officials claiming that the attacks will only stop after US cuts off relations with Israel.
“When will the US government realise we won’t stop until they cut relations with Israel,” the group tweeted.
