Chinese smartphone maker might put pressure-sensitive displays in future smartphones, just like the one in Apple’s newest device, the iPhone 6S. Xiaomi has already been criticised for copying Apple in both software and hardware design, so chalk this up to more of that.
The news comes via an anonymous tipster who goes by Leaksfly on Chinese social network Weibo, who says that Xiaomi has patented a 3D Touch-like technology, something that Samsung has also applied for a patent for.
3D Touch allows the iPhone 6S display to sense different levels of pressure and react differently to each. For instance, a user can gently press on an incoming email notification to preview the message, and then press harder to actually open the message and perform more actions like reply and forward.
