TomTom Spark

An accurate activity tracker, with on-the-go music, makes the TomTom Spark a good bet for serious runners.

Best buy: Rs 21,999 (official price)
USP: Accurate GPS tracking, multi-sports mode for outdoor and indoor activities
Rating: 4/5

Fed up of carrying multiple gears like music players, headphones and an activity tracker when running or cycling? The TomTom Spark Cardio + Music fitness watch wants to be your all-in-one go-to device. We find out if it lives up to the promise.

What’s good: TomTom being a leader in GPS tracking system, we were certain that it would track our runs accurately. But what we were really looking forward to was its built-in heart rate monitor. People who work out in a gym (on treadmills and elliptical trainers) know the importance of tracking heart rate during any activity. It helps you push your body to its maximum capacity and slow down when needed. The heart rate monitor could accurately tell us when we were at the peak of our run; it could monitor activities like playing a game of badminton or just a brisk walk. This is ideal for those who seek an active lifestyle.

The device also offers multi-sport options, for instance tracking activities like cycling, swimming and jogging separately. Once done with your activity, you can easily see your progress on the MySports app. The latest update also allows you to post your timings across social media platforms.

What’s not: One of the biggest let down of the device is its clunky design. The watch is designed to be worn all-day long, but it is not stylish enough to sport as an accessory. The watch has a large display, but doesn’t allow you to navigate through a touch screen. Instead, one is made to use a four-way button navigator on the straps.

Verdict: The TomTom Spark Cardio + Music GPS Fitness Watch is ideal for serious runners and cyclists. It may appeal to more people if the design is given an upgrade.
