First Mark Zuckerberg did it. Now, Sundar Pichai has done it too.

With Trump’s controversial remark on banning Muslims travelling to the US growing into a maelstrom, the India-born chief executive officer of Google has spoken out about the intolerance that has been brewing.

Pichai took to the blog-publishing platform Medium to re-enforce what he says is America’s greatest strength, its diversity.

“… it’s not just about opportunity. The open-mindedness, tolerance, and acceptance of new Americans is one of the country’s greatest strengths and most defining characteristics. And that is no coincidence?—?America, after all, was and is a country of immigrants,” he posted.

Though seemingly reluctant to add to the debate, Pichai says he felt the need, being an emigrant himself and running a company that has a “vibrant mix of races and cultures”.

“I firmly believe that whether you’re building a company or leading a country, a diverse mix of voices and backgrounds and experiences leads to better discussions, better decisions, and better outcomes for everyone,” he went on to say.

Recalling his own experience when he first moved to the US for college two decades ago, Pichai said he has always felt at home, as much as he does in India, an experience he believes is not just unique to him.

Pichai finally took the bull by the horns and called for supporting Muslims and other minority communities, saying people must not “let fear defeat our values”.

Reiterating what Zuckerberg has said on his Facebook post, Pichai gave importance to hearing every person’s voice, especially “those who are less represented”.
