Government vans to create awareness for Digital India

In an attempt to make more people aware of Digital India programme, the government is rolling out vans in interior districts of the country.

New Delhi In an attempt to make more people aware of Digital India programme, the government has decided that it will be rolling out multiple vans in interior districts of the country.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communications of Information Technology will be kickstarting the initiative dubbed Digital India Outreach Campaign at a press conference on Monday.

The first phase of the outreach campaign will end next month. As part of this, 16 vans will be rolled out to 34 districts of nine states -- Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Rajasthan. The government plans to run 66 vans and cover 657 districts of the country by March 31, 2017.

The government hopes that the campaign will bolster awareness about Digital India programme among more people. The vans are equipped with audio visual facilities, and also offer Internet connectivity, education material and other items. The information about the services are offered in 14 languages: Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

The government hopes to reach more than 10 lakh citizens and see a growth of up to 1.5 lakhs -- in the user base of MyGov, Digital Locker, Aadhaar and other digital services.
