Although Google Pixel and Pixel XL will run on Android’s latest update Nougat, here are some features that will be exclusive to the two smartphones, which start at ₹57,000 and ₹67,000 respectively for the 32GB variants.

Unlimited photo and video storage for life

Unlike Apple, which only gives 5GB free storage on iCloud and later charges users for extra storage, Google’s Pixel smartphone offers free unlimited photos and video storage for life in all original resolution sizes. It even includes videos recorded at 4K resolution that takes up a lot of space.

A smart storage option

This is something that Nextbit’s Robin brought to the market. Google calls this feature Smart Storage and it has the ability to free up storage space by analysing files that the user is not using and transferring them to the cloud over the internet.

Google Assistant

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL are the first smartphones with Google Assistant built-in. Only Google’s messaging app Allo, which has a preview edition of the Assistant, will be available on other phones. The Assistant can be activated by long pressing the home button on a Pixel device. The Assistant is expected to come later on other smartphones but Google has shared no such plans.

Pixel launcher

The launcher will be exclusive to Pixel. It replaces Google Now with the Google Assistant, it has a dynamic calendar icon that shows you the date in a glance, a revamped app drawer, new round app icons among other things. Again plans to bring it on partner devices were not shared.

24/7 customer support

Finally a dedicated customer support app will come with Pixel phones. The app will be able to register both voice and text messages. It also comes with a screen sharing solution so that the tech-support can directly see what’s on your screen to diagnose problems.

What non-Pixel users get with Nougat?

Other partner handset-makers will get the Daydream VR support, Night Mode in cameras and fingerprint gestures.
