Saturday’s victory against Pakistan during the T20 World Cup was indeed a joyous one for cricket fans in India, keeping its all-win record against one of its fiercest rivals intact. Apart from the action that took place at Eden Gardens, the rivalry among the two nations was also clearly evident on Twitter.
#INDvPAK was the top trend on Twitter throughout the day with a staggering 1.12 million tweets, making Saturday’s clash the highest tweeted international T20 match ever. The match beats the earlier record of over 670,000 ring the recently held Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan.
Indians fans were so elated after the victory as there were 12.4k tweets per minute, apparently more than the victorious moment from last year’s CWC2015 match between the two neighbouring nations.
Clashes between India and Pakistan have always been a hype on Twitter. As since 2013, matches between the two have generated 3.15 million tweets using the official match hashtag (#INDvPAK).
