The retail arm of Reliance Industries, Reliance Digital, is prepping the launch of ultra-HD smart Televisions for Relaince Jio’s upcoming services and business operations. The company plans to introduce two 4K UHD smartTVs in 50-inch and 65-inch screen sizes. The 50-inch model is expected to be priced at Rs 55,900, and the 65-inch at a premium price tag of Rs 1.55 lakh.
“The smart TVs are most likely to be launched under the LYF brand. However, the final call hasn’t been taken,’ a person familiar with the developments told ET. The person further added saying that company will be offering “unique combination of products, services and applications on the Jio platform.”
These smartTVs will run Android 4.4 OS and pack 2GB of RAM, HDMI, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, along with WiFi connectivity. Users will also get the option to plug-in a mouse and a keyboard to use them as a makeshift computer.
The news comes just ahead of introduction of the Relaince Jio 4G branded services, which are expected to push LTE-based content services in India. The company is going full throttle on content services such as high-definition TV shows, on-demand video and music streaming services at very economical prices.
In addition, Reliance Jio is also planning to build a full-feldged ecosystem of apps that will be integrated with its online service called Jio World. Some of the apps initially planned include Jio Beats, Jio News, Jio On-demand, Jio Drive and Jio Play.
Reliance has already launched 4G services for its employees and their family members back in December last year. The service is expected to be launched to the public by April-May this year. Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani said in an interview to CNN International that Reliance Jio will cover 80% of the 1.3 billion people in the country.
