Samsung has finally launched the consumer version of its Gear VR headset in India at an event today. Priced at Rs.8,200, the headset will be available at all Samsung retail chains across the country and only on Flipkart for online shoppers.
Users can dock their smartphones inside the Gear VR headset via microUSB connectivity for a more vivid gaming and movie watching experience.
The Gear VR headset is only compatible with the flagship devices form Samsung -- Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+. The VR headset is essentially aimed at giving users an immersive multimedia experience.
Users can download and play over 150 plus games from the Oculus Store on the headset. There are also 360 degree virtual tours of popular tourist destinations along with a slew of apps that Samsung has released especially for VR, such as a VR browser and VR gallery. The headset has three modes which include cinema, multi-screen and Home Theatre that can scale up 2D or 3D content for an IMAX-like experience.
The Gear VR sports a trackpad, back button along with motion sensors offering gyroscopic and acceleration functions. According to Samsung, Gear VR’s touchpad has been significantly overhauled with improved responsiveness, thereby giving users precise control while playing games and other multimedia content.
Samsung also launched the Gear S2 smartwatch in two variants: Classic at Rs. 24,300 and Sports at Rs. 25,800.
