Google has announced a new Google Maps update which adds a dedicated tab with information for cab services. The new section will appear right next to the current car, transit, and walking options when you search for directions in Google Maps. It is essentially aimed at offering users with information such as tariffs along with the cab services available within their vicinity and then compare their fares. The feature will rolling out for Android users in the next few days and will shortly arrive on iOS thereafter.
“When you search for directions using Google Maps on your mobile device, we’ll show you a dedicated tab with information for ride services—in addition to the existing car, transit, walking, or biking options you’re familiar with. So when you’re leaving work to meet a friend for dinner, you can easily compare your options to find the fastest way there, without having to open multiple apps,” Google explains in a blog post.
Until now, Google Maps only had Uber integration for users, though the update also adds integration for Ola Cabs in India. Users who have a taxi-hailing app already installed on their mobile devices, will be able to see information such as fare details and estimated pick up times if a cab is available near their location. Google Maps will take users directly the Ola or Uber app once they’ve selected the service. Uber users will be able to choose among UberGo and UberX, while Ola customers can choose between Ola Mini, Ola Micro and Ola Sedan.
