CREO is a new company bases out of Bengaluru that launched their first smartphone, the Mark 1 to take on phones from OnePlus, Xiaomi and Yu. Unlike the companies that put their phones in the spotlight, CREO is placing their Fuel OS on centre stage.
CREO is sticking to its roots by banking on great software -- for better user experience. With ReFuel, a pre-installed app on the Mark 1 that contains sections for updates, they will let the user pick features for their smartphone.
With the promise of a new features every month, the Indian company is set to take on leading Android ROMs such as Cyanogen, Oxigen and MIUI.
The Sense feature is like the Spotlight search on iOS and lets you look through apps, contacts and notes for contextual information. Sense can be accessed from any screen on your app, while spotlight is only accessible on the home screen. Google Now on Tap also does similar feats by scanning all the images and text on the screen, but CREO makes it’s Sense feature seem more appealing by letting you search at any point, on any screen, with any app open and at any point of time, by tapping on the home button twice -- except for, of course, on the lock screen.
The total number of phones stolen last year in Bengaluru alone, are estimated to be 25,000. CREO is promising to make your phone traceable, even someone does a factory reset and erases all your data. Whenever a new SIM is inserted into your phone, an alert will be sent to your email address with the SIM’s phone number and its location.
The Echo feature is a free answering machine on your phone that plays a recording you store and saves the callers’ message on the phone -- after the beep.
Like MIUI 7, you can silent an app by blocking its notifications from the notification menu. CREO also separates the marketing SMS from your personal ones to make your life a little clutter free. Also, smart OTP copies the unique number sent to your phone without having to open without having to open the message.
They also let you try the Beta builds with the flick of a switch. That means early access to latest features like the Nightly builds of Cyanogen.
But the backbone of CREO’s appeal is the promise of new features every month. With the ReFuel app, Mark 1 users will be able to pick and choose which features they want and install them. You can also suggest new features which the 70-member team will build if it gets attention on their forums, also built into the app.
However, the UI of CREO’s OS is quite close to Android and that’s why CEO Sai Srinivas assures us that the updates will be timely and quick, despite the heavy features built into their version.
