Apple has sent out invites for a September 9 event, where it is expected to unveil new iPhones and upgrades to other devices. We asked the US-based company’s digital voice assistant, Siri, for some hot gossip on the line-up, but she wasn’t amused.
The email invitation to the event includes an Apple logo and the text "Hey Siri, give us a hint”. When asked to do so, however, Siri showed us her snarky side. Here is what she had to say:
A new 12 megapixel camera, force touch input
Most Apple fans are like the curious kids Siri refers to. There could be a lot to feed their curiosity. If rumours are to be believed, Apple will unveil the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6 Plus S. The new iPhones may also have the Force Touch technology to distinguish between a light tap and a press. The technology is already used by Apple in its MacBook trackpads.
The company has introduced new iPhone models in September every year. While the suspense lingers right till the day of the launch event, this is the first time Apple has used Siri to market the build-up.
News reports also suggest the next iPhones will feature a 12-megapixel camera that can shoot 4K videos.
The company may use the San Francisco event to unveil its latest line of iPads. The Apple TV, which hasn’t been updated since 2012, could also get an update.
The inclusion of the voice assistant in the Apple invites suggests customers could see a significant update there, too.
Research firm Gartner recently said global smartphone sales recorded the slowest growth rate since 2013 in the second quarter of 2015. Apple, however, recorded strong iPhone replacements in emerging and already mature markets.
