BlackBerry smartphone and Playbook users from all over the world have downloaded more than 3 billion apps via RIM’s BlackBerry App World. “Three billion app downloads averages out to over 2.5 million downloads each day,” said RIM celebrating the milestone. “What’s even more important -
and impressive - is that the number of daily downloads continues to increase. It took 786 days to reach the one billion mark, 210 days to reach two billion, and only 176 days to reach the three billion number.”

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) has been falling behind rival smartphone makers in recent years however, the new record proves that there are still a large number of BlackBerry users downloading apps and using the platform.

BlackBerry App World launched in 2009 and is RIM’s alternative to Apple’s App Store and the Google Play app store.

The milestone, while commendable, pales in comparison to those set by both Apple’s App Store and the Google Play store: Apple celebrated 25 billion app downloads in March and Google Play surpassed its 15 billionth app download in May.
