At this year's GSMA Global Mobile Awards, announced at the Mobile World Congress Wednesday, Samsung cleaned up, scooping five awards in total though there was also good news for Nokia and Asus.

The South Korean company was named Device Manufacturer of the Year while its flagship
Galaxy SIII handset was declared Smartphone of the Year. The Samsung Galaxy Camera -- a digital camera that uses the Android operating system and apps -- was named Best Mobile Enabled Consumer Electronics Device, while the company also scooped two further awards for its mobile technology and infrastructure work.

Other notable winners included Nokia which was recognized for the performance and quality of its Asha phones. The panel named the Asha 305 Best Feature Phone or Entry-Level phone, while Asus collected the award for Best Mobile Tablet for its work with Google on the Nexus-7 tablet. The judges claim that the tablet was chosen because it had brought credibility to the 7-inch tablet sector and had taken it to the mass market.
