Free and freedom-based software is not restricted to Gnu/Linux. You can find a whole CD of 700MB of software meant for Windows called GnuWinII. You can download it from gnuwin.org. You could also contact the local linux user group in your
region for a CD, by looking up a chapter at linux-india.org or contact linux-delhi.org directly. On the CD, you will find a free alternative version to MS Office, called OpenOffice, that installs under Windows and, therefore, saves you approximately Rs. 12,000 in licenses. You will find similar software for other categories, from browsers, email clients, chat software, to image-editing software.
