Prepare for your annual video game-related history lesson, courtesy of Assassin's Creed III, via a trailer which provides context for the pivotal Boston Tea Party, a context which is primarily factual but leaves wriggle room for conspiratorial theories by the bucketload. For as is the
Assassin's Creed series' want, history is mixed with myth, legend, and Machiavellian manipulation, as two rival factions battle for power and control from one generation to the next.

The first game visited the Middle East during the third crusade, while the second and its subsequent off-shoots were set in Rennaissance-era Italy and, eventually, Ottoman Constantinople and its surrounds.

This third core entry visits America during the late 18th century, and new main character Connor will be mixing with prominent political and military personalities of the time, traversing wilderness, battlefield, Boston and New York.

It's due on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 October 30, with companion game Assassin's Creed III: Liberation for Vita at the same time, the Wii U edition on November 18 and a PC version two days later.

That gives the game good visibility throughout a busy period that will see tha launch of multiple other big budget action games, with Forza Horizon, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Halo 4 vieing for attention.
