Search giant Google celebrated American cartoonist Winsor McCay's Little Nemo illustration in an elaborate interactive doodle. Called Little Nemo in Google-land, the doodle marks the 107th anniversary of Little Nemo in Slumberland comic strips which appeared in the New York
Herald.

In an an animated trip, we travel through eight panels as Nemo is thrown out of his bed, caught by Princess of Slumberland and then travels with her in a orb on to another bed with long legs. He then tumbles down the panel, finally wakes up and falls off his bed.

The strip is about Nemo's adventures as he tries to reach the Princess, daughter of King Morpheus, who wanted to play with Nemo.

McCay is also feted for his pioneering animated short film Gertie the Dinosaur.

Born in Michigan in either 1869 or 1871 – the date is disputed -- McCay died on 26 July 1934 of a cerebral embolism.

Google regularly features doodles on its homepage to celebrate innovators, artists and important moments in history.
