Internet users tweet to stop cyber bullying on ‘hug day’

American singer Miley Cyrus is urging Twitter users to stop using the microblogging service to bully and tease other people from behind a screen.

She tweeted, “I'm so sorry @mrssosbourne and @MissKellyO for the abusive tweet from @Drealaloca I don't think it's right for people to use
twitter”...”to abuse and harass others. Just cause your hidden behind some computer like a coward doesn't mean this isn't bullying.”

An hour later and the hashtag “#stopcyberbullying” is still spreading virally around the Twittersphere as Twitter users join the fight against cyber bullying. A second trend is spreading as Tweeps post that less bullying will put the “smile back” on peoples’ faces.

December 14 is Hug Day in Korea but microbloggers all over the world are celebrating the quirky traditionby sending virtual hugs to their followers.

The TV show “All That” features in first place on Twitter’s most talked about topics list and is followed by the hashtag “#bugungunlerdenbesiktas” in fourth place and the movie “Belly 2” in fifth place

Late night comedy show “Chelsea Lately” is in eighth place and animated TV show “American Dad” is in tenth place.

American actress and singer Adriana Grande is promoting her first single “Put Your Hearts Up” on Twitter and Twitterers are reporting that travel agent Thomas Cook will close 200 of its 1,300 stores over the next two years after posting annual losses of £398 million
